Defendants indicted in tractor trailer smuggling incident
Indicted Human Smuggling Case. On Wednesday in connection with a human smuggling operation that left 50 adults and three children dead in and around a tractor-trailer near San Antonio last month. Of the 16 people transported to hospitals, five died later. The majority were from Mexico; the remainder were from Guatemala and Honduras. It was the deadliest tragedy to claim the lives of migrants smuggled across the border from Mexico. The dead included 27 people from Mexico, 14 from Honduras, seven from Guatemala and two from El Salvador. Human trafficking involves exploiting men, women, or children for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation.
