USCIS Naturalization Test Implemented. All citizenship applicants must take the test, regardless of when they filed their Application for Naturalization (Form N-400). Up until 10/1/09, applicants who had filed for naturalization before 10/1/08 had a choice of taking the old test or the new test. This notice announces that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will conduct a nationwide trial of planned changes to the naturalization test. The trial testing does not include the reading or writing portions of the test. Under 8 CFR 312.1(c) and 312.2(c), an applicant for naturalization may satisfy these requirements by passing an examination (naturalization test).
