The New York Times reports that as international travel increases this summer, the State Department warned Americans that it will take even longer to get their passports. As of March 24, routine processing of passports will take 10 to 13 weeks, and expedited processing, which costs an extra $60, will take seven to nine weeks. In most countries, you must apply in person at a U.S. embassy or consulate for all passport application to travel abroad. In a limited number of countries, you may be eligible to access some services by mail. The six-month requirement does not apply to United Kingdom passports. Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of your trip.
