USCIS Broadens Reach of Case Status Online Platform

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services:

USCIS has expanded its Case Status Online tool to include intercountry adoption cases. This allows applicants, petitioners, and their legal representatives to check the status of several key forms online. This expansion offers greater access to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services case information.

Which Forms Are Included?

The new online status check is available for a range of intercountry adoption forms. These forms are used at different stages of the adoption process. They include:

  • Form I-600A, Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition
  • Form I-600, Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative
  • Form I-600A/I-600 Supplement 3, Request for Action on Approved Application/Petition
  • Form I-800A, Application for Determination of Suitability to Adopt a Child from a Convention Country
  • Form I-800, Petition to Classify Convention Adoptee as an Immediate Relative
  • Form I-800A Supplement 3, Request for Action on Approved Application

This expansion allows users to track their cases with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services from a single, centralized online system.

How the Tool Works

The Case Status Online tool works by providing the most recent information on a case. Users need their receipt number to check the status. This is a unique 13-character number that USCIS provides after an application is filed. Users can enter this number on the USCIS website to see the current status of their case.

The tool can show several updates, including:

  • The issuance of a USCIS notice, such as a Request for Evidence (RFE).
  • Confirmation that USCIS has received a response to a notice.
  • The issuance of a final decision, either an approval or a denial.

This new feature gives more transparency to the intercountry adoption process. It reduces the need for people to call the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Contact Center for updates. It also helps families and attorneys monitor their cases more efficiently. The change aligns with USCIS’s broader effort to modernize its services and provide more information online.
