Biden admin’s new rule will let asylum officers, not just judges
NBC News reports that,
According to DHS and DOJ officials,
A new rule from the Biden administration will let immigrants remain in the United States and skip immigration courts if an asylum officer grants them protections.
If the asylum officer decides they’re not eligible for asylum,
Then the case goes to an immigration judge who has to decide within 90 days whether the petitioner should be removed.
AILA President-Elect Jeremy McKinney comments in the video that
“it’s a very common-sense rule,” but calls the 90-day provision “incredibly unrealistic.”
