Naturalization Purposes. If you are a lawful permanent resident who must leave the U.S. for a period of one year or longer to engage in qualifying employment and you want to preserve your residence to pursue naturalization. In general, you must have been physically present in the U.S. as an LPR for an uninterrupted period of at least one year prior to working outside the country.

Use this form if you are a lawful permanent resident who must leave the United States for a period of one year or longer to engage in qualifying employment and you want to preserve your residence to pursue naturalization purposes. It is an application to become a naturalized U.S. citizen. Naturalization is the process to become a U.S. citizen if you were born outside of the United States. If you meet certain requirements, you may become a U.S. citizen either at birth or after birth. The applicant may request, in writing, to withdraw his or her application. If USCIS accepts the withdrawal, the applicant may submit another application without prejudice.
