The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the designation of Afghan for Temporary Protected Status for 18 months. Temporary Protected Status is a temporary immigration status that allows people from certain countries to remain in the United States. Generally, only the citizens from countries that the U.S. government has
designated for TPS can apply for this special protection. Only those who have been residing in the U.S. as of March 15, 2022 will be eligible for TPS. It protects Afghan nationals who have been living in the U.S.
From having to return to the unsafe situation in Afghanistan. However, These individuals will also be eligible for Afghanistan designated for TPS.
