The 2011 Budget Homeland security request is $56.3 billion.
It equates to more than a 2 percent increase over last year’s funding.
Agencies spend available budgetary resources by making financial promises called obligations.
The results are staggering.
It has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face.
This requires the hard work of more than 260,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector.
In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, in an attempt to prevent further bloodshed on American soil, Bush launched a massive overhaul of the nation’s security, intelligence and emergency-response systems through the creation of the White House Office of Homeland Security.
